The Vibe Behind Sanctuary Place
Every dream starts with someone who sees things a little differently. For Sanctuary Place, that was Jim Bisset—a guy with heart, vision, and a deep connection to the land.
Back in the early 2000s, Jim looked at 300 acres of untouched native bush and thought, “What if regular Kiwis could have their own peaceful patch of this paradise?” So he got to work—not in a rush, not chasing profit—but with care, patience, and purpose.
With the family’s know-how in land development and civil works, they shaped Sanctuary Place using design that flows with nature, not against it. Every curve of the road, every lot, every open space—crafted with empathy for the land and the people who’d one day live here.
Under Jim’s easy-going but determined guidance, the place took shape. It grew. It thrived. And now, the next generation of the Bisset family is keeping the dream alive—still guided by that same laid-back, visionary spirit.
Sanctuary Place isn’t just a development. It’s a vibe. A legacy. A slice of something real.

Meet the Man Behind the Vision
In this short video, Jim Bisset shares the story of how Sanctuary Place came to be — a bold idea to create a nature-connected community on 300 acres of untouched native bush.
It wasn’t about clearing land and building houses. It was about working with the land — preserving its beauty, respecting its form, and offering everyday Kiwis the chance to own a piece of something special. Drawing on the family’s civil construction experience, the development was designed with empathy and care, maintaining the serenity of the West Coast environment.
Jim’s passion and wisdom laid the foundation. Today, his family continues the legacy — honoring the original vision and carrying it into the future.
